· In August 2022, BIMS received its ‘Charter’ from the Government of Jamaica and is now officially registered as the “School of Medicine & Health Professions” to operate as a “Higher Education Institution” by The Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (JTEC) of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MOEYI).
· In Dec 2022, The UCJ (University Council of Jamaica) granted CANDIDACY STATUS, Stage-1 Registration for the PreMed degree at the BIMS.
Listing on WDOMS (WFME)
Listing on the WDOMS (World Directory of Medical Schools) will be enacted as soon as the confirmation of commencement of the inaugural class in June 2024 is received by WFME (World Federation for Medical Education).
In April 2014, FAIMER (Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research) and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) announced the launch of the World Directory of Medical Schools. This new resource is the result of a March 2012 agreement to merge the organizations’ respective directories—FAIMER’s International Medical Education Directory (IMED) and WFME’s Avicenna Directory—to produce a single comprehensive resource on undergraduate medical education worldwide.
